Just a two hour drive away, Winchester, Virginia is the perfect distance from home for a quick weekend getaway. We can pop Dakota in the car with some snacks, toys, and promises for adventures abound.

We stayed at the George Washington Wyndham Grand Hotel, a historic building perched right in the center of Old Town Winchester. We were just a hop, skip and a jump over from Steamy’s Cafe, Winchester Brew Works and Alesatian Brewing Company and a quick drive from Bonnie Blue Southern Market & Bakery which has some of the best BBQ in town. There were quite a few more restaurants and breweries on our list we wanted to check out so we’ll have to go back again soon.

We also experienced quite a bit of unexpected water fun over the weekend. The George Washington Hotel has an indoor pool inspired by a Roman bathhouse. It’s been a while since we’ve taken Dakota to the pool (her swimming lessons ended last summer) but she warmed up to the pool pretty quickly and was having a blast in no time.

Even more fun was the splash park in Old Town Winchester we stumbled upon while venturing out one evening. It was hilarious watching Dakota go from tepidly timid to shrieks of excitement, diving into all of the little fountains scattered about.
